BlackBerry’s latest Android smartphones, DTEK60 and the DTEK50, launched in India today. Of these, DTEK60 is the last smartphone to be completely made by the Canadian smartphone maker. The smartphones launched in USrecently. While the BlackBerry DTEK50 is priced at Rs 21,990, the more powerful DTEK60 costs Rs 46,990. The devices will be available soon. The Canadian smartphone maker says the sales will commence this week itself.
On looks front, BlackBerry DTEK60 is very similar to Alcatel Idol 4s, with some analysts calling the smartphone rebranded Alcatel Idol 4. The specifications of BlackBerry DTEK50 too are similar to that of Idol 4.
The highlight of both DTEK60 and the DTEK50 is their security feature. The handsets come with a ‘DTEK by BlackBerry’ app, which automatically monitors the operating system and apps and lets the users know when their data and its privacy could be at risk. Both also come with a customizable BlackBerry Convenience Key, which can be quickly used as a Mute key during an ongoing voice call.
The BlackBerry DTEK50 and DTEK60 come preloaded with a whole suite of BlackBerry’s productivity apps such as Keyboard, Hub, BBM, Services and Password Keeper. Standard Google apps such as Gmail, Hangouts and YouTube are there as well. They also come with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

BlackBerry DTEK 60
In terms of hardware specifications, BlackBerry DTEK60 comes with a 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS LCD display of 1440×2560 pixel resolution. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable through microSD cards of up to 2TB in size. Major connectivity options of the device include 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C. The whole package is backed by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
For imaging duties, the DTEK60 has a 21MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus and dual-tone LED flash. The camera can record 4K videos at 30fps and slo-mo 120fps videos in 720p resolution. An 8MP front-facing camera with Full HD recording capability is also included.
Running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box, the BlackBerry DTEK60 will almost certainly get the Android 7.0 Nougat update sometime in the future.
BlackBerry DTEK 50
The DTEK50 by BlackBerry is one of its slimmest devices yet at 7.4mm. It features a 5.2-inch full-HD resolution, scratch-resistant display and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, clubbed with 3GB RAM. The smartphone houses 16GB of inbuilt storage, which can be further expanded via a microSD card (up to 2TB).
The BlackBerry DTEK50 sports a 13MP autofocus rear camera along with an 8MP front-facing camera. Both can record videos in full-HD resolution at 30 frames per second.
